Birdie Bungalows from Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Our snow isn't lasting long. It's a slushy, patchy, wet mess outside, having rained overnight. Unfortunately, we're heading into a very cold snowy few days this weekend, with a possibility of freezing rain on Tuesday. Since that's the day our carpet installation is supposed to happen, it looks as if we're going to be delayed. For not too long, I hope, but we'll just have to wait and see. We're continuing with our efforts at getting ready for it. I love a good period of chaos and pandemonium, don ...

Snowy Landscape from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. So, we're sitting in bed reading last night when we hear the unmistakable sound of snow sliding off our metal roof. There was a chance of snow in the forecast, but the stars were going to have to align perfectly. We weren't really expecting anything. Looking outside...HOLY SMOKES! Look what can happen when you turn your back for just a second.

Well, of course I needed to see the measuring thingy we bought recently. So I looked outside with a flashlight shining through the window, but it was too dark to see clearly ...

For the Birds from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a stitching marathon yesterday. Some might call me a crazed stitcher, and they wouldn't be wrong. I'd hoped I could stitch all five of the little birdhouses in a single day. When the first one took more than two hours, I realized I'd seriously underestimated the effort involved in bringing this challenge quilt to a finish. It'll get done, but it'll take a few days longer than anticipated.

After writing my post yesterday, I went straight to work on house number one.

This one was kind of fun. I ...

Searching for Inspiration from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was another day of distraction yesterday. The first prompt, "Bird House," was announced for Season 15 of Project Quilting. I made the mistake of checking for it while I was in the middle of my Bow-flex workout. From there on, every time I took a 30-second interval rest between exercises, I was running into the sewing room, or looking at my bookshelf, or looking through notebooks, or looking online for inspiration. Probably, I spent hours on that yesterday. Nothing really lit my fire nor inspired me to make something until I came upon this little ...

2023: The Year in Review from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. The day has come to say good-bye to 2023, and ready ourselves for what is to come in 2024. It's only turning a page on a calendar, but somehow New Year's Day seems filled with anticipation. We're looking forward to heading out on a trip in just a few weeks, and new carpeting in just two weeks. So there are some immediate changes happening here that make the new year seem kind of exciting...as exciting as it can be when you're anticipating becoming a septuagenarian in just a few months.

It ...

Best of 2023 from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Hopefully, everyone has recovered from Christmas festivities. We had a lovely holiday here, and I hope you did too. Today begins one of my favorite linky parties of the year. My thanks go to Cheryl Brickey of Meadow Mist Designs for hosting this party for the past nine years. Thanks, Cheryl!

It's been a good year, all-in-all. We had a good mix of staying-at-home and traveling. Our biggest trip of the year saw us ATVing in Colorado and Utah with lots of sight-seeing along the way. There was also plenty of time for sewing and ...

One More Block from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a grocery shopping day yesterday. We were late out of the starting gate and so it was after lunch before we were home again. And after a harrowing trip to the grocery store, naps are a requirement in order to fully recover. We indulged. And that didn't leave much time for sewing. Also, I decided to do some baking, and so there was even less time.

Last month (or maybe even earlier), I bought some Fuji apples for making applesauce. I used all but about half a dozen. I've been eating them ...

Even Lazier from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's been cold and frosty in the morning for the past few days. We've had some bright sunshine, but very cold temperatures. It's a little treacherous stepping outside anywhere in the shade. The sidewalks have a thin sheen of frost on them, making them very slippery. Kitties know the best place to be. Smitty was tied in a tight knot yesterday morning.

And where is Sadie? Has anybody seen Sadie?

I was so lazy yesterday, I took a nap in the morning, and then another one after lunch. Nevertheless, I got a good ...

Lazy Busy Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I don't know about you, but I'm usually feeling pretty wiped out the day after Thanksgiving. Even though I accomplished some things yesterday, it didn't feel like much. The time passed, and I was moving slowly from one thing to another.

I took the first stitches on the Bumble Sampler.

After that, I placed and hung all the Christmas quilts. Not putting up a tree makes decorating quick and easy. Once that was all in place, I did my Thanksgiving penance on the Bowflex.

There was just one more thing I needed to ...

'Tis the Season from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'm taking this morning's sunrise as a warning. "Silly season" is officially upon us.

There were a few errands to run in town yesterday, and I barely got home without losing my life. One of my stops was to pick up my glasses with new lenses at Costco optical. Good grief. There was gridlock in the parking lot, and it only got worse from there. My business at Costco took no more than a minute, but I still waited approximately a half-hour for my number to be called. And then, I confronted more gridlock ...

A Finish and a Winner! from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's time to announce the winner of my little giveaway. I consulted with Mr. Random who chose...

Bonnie58!

Congratulations, Bonnie58! I've sent you an email, so check your inbox.

Okay, and that's probably the most exciting thing I have to tell you this morning, but bear with me, please. I finished the 11th block for the Domestic Affairs quilt. This one:

There's just one block to go before I can sew them into a quilt top. Here are the 11 blocks I have for this quilt so far. (Sorry for the blur ...
